Systemic Infection- Urinary Tract Infection
Just like people, our pets can suffer from urinary tract infections too.
Did you know that one of the major medical reasons why a cat may urinate outside of the litter box is the possibility that it is suffering from some type of feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD)?

Signs your cat may have a urinary tract infection:
- Urinating in new or unusual places
- Frequent attempts to urinate, without producing much urine
- Straining to urinate, or urinating in a tense, hunched posture
- Behavior changes such as restless, listlessness or hiding away
- Refusing to eat
- Vomiting
- Increased grooming or licking of the urinary opening
A complication from FLUTD can sometimes result in complete blockage of the flow of urine out of the urethra. This is a very serious condition and can be fatal for your pet within 24 hours. Make sure your pet gets veterinary care immediately.
Dogs are also susceptable to urinary tract infections, and exhibit many of the same signs and symptoms.
The Colborne Veterinary Clinic takes pride in treating and helping to prevent many different systemic infections.
